Description
2019 marks the 200th anniversary of the SS Savannah's groundbreaking trans-Atlantic crossing.
Event Details
In recognition of this monumental achievement, Ships of the Sea Museum is delighted to present the works of Robert Morris, Savannah artist and Senior Director of Corporate Communications for the Georgia Poets Authority. On 22 May 2019, (the day in 1819 when Savannah left her namesake city for her trans-Atlantic crossing) Robert Morris will unveil two eight-foot canvases in the Museum's lower atrium. The mural-sized paintings capture not only the era and international intrigue that followed the first ship to ever cross the Atlantic by steam engine, but help to shed light on what her accomplishment means for international trade today.
