Description

The Coastal Cohorts are bringing their acclaimed environmental musical, King Mackerel & The Blues are Running back to Tybee with its first-ever run at the Post Theater!

Event Details

The three-man show is an acoustic revue of Southern coastal life, with songs and stories about fishing, getting your car stuck in the sand, cooking, joyriding, romance (doomed and triumphant), shag dancing and of course, hurricanes. Their ‘tap-your-feet’ happy music has traveled successfully as far up the Coast as Martha’s Vineyard and the Kennedy Center. This show was also filmed as a PBS-TV special.

The Coastal Cohorts is a trio of Southern composer/performer/friends: Broadway entertainer and part-time Tybee resident Jim Wann, along with rock artist and producer Don Dixon and author/creative writing professor Bland Simpson. They took King Mackerel from Chapel Hill to New York City in the mid-1980’s for two successful runs off-Broadway, then returned to their Carolina roots for an ongoing series of partnerships with environmental and arts nonprofits. It was produced twice on Tybee Island to raise funds for the restoration of the Tybee Post Theater. And now, finally, they are on stage in the coolest little music hall in the Coastal Empire!

This concert will benefit the Post and The Dolphin Project during their 30th anniversary year. This local nonprofit works to protect wild, estuarine Bottlenose dolphins in coastal Georgia.

Sat. Jan. 26, 7:30 pm; Sun. Jan. 27, 3 pm. Tickets $25/$30 premium; $12 children 12 and under.
