Tinsel! A Christmas Cabaret featuring J.J. Collins is just what you need to get into the Holiday Spirit!
Holiday songs, familiar and unfamiliar, will make you smile, laugh, and feel the sweet tugs of nostalgia. From jazz to broadway, pop to traditional, and folk to gospel, this 20-song concert featuring the powerhouse vocals of J.J. Collins with 8 different instruments, guest singers, a dancer, a bagpiper, and a women’s chorus will offer something for everyone. Come and enjoy!
The band for Tinsel! includes influential musicians Michael Braz on piano, Mary Margaret Cozart on guitar, Delbert Felix on bass, and Spencer Boyum on drums. Assaf Gleizner is stepping in to dazzle us on the piano for a few songs, John Tisbert is lending his considerable chops on horn, and the incomparable duo of Sarah Schenkman on cello and Terry Moore on violin are gracing us with their beautiful musical offerings. For an added treat, Nathan Nightingale will be breaking out the bagpipes for us! An 11-woman choir will be featured on Joni Mitchell’s River. Natasha Drena will be singing “December Prayer” accompanied by dancer Carina Rae Hoelscher. Trae Gurley will join in on vocals and guitar on a contemporary version of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, and Julie Lokahi and J.J. will be duetting on a couple of Indigo Girls numbers. Bella Manley will be making her UU debut with Christmas Dreamin’. The icing on the cake is the delight of attending this concert in the gorgeous jewel box setting of the Unitarian Universalist church in downtown Savannah – also known as the Jingle Bells church! This is an event you don’t want to miss! Tickets $30 at the door. As with all MusicMix concerts, a wine and cheese reception is included with your ticket. Due to staging, this concert is not suitable for young children.
